Darts in hand
- With three darts: treble 17, treble 17, double 18.
- With two darts 138 cannot be finished — the most you can check out in two is 110.
- With one dart only doubles and the bull finish, and 138 is not one of them.
If the first dart misses
Hit the single 17 instead of treble 17 and you are left on 121, which you cannot finish this turn; score sensibly and come back to a double next turn.
The finishing double
The route finishes on double 18. If that dart catches the single instead, the double halves cleanly: double 9. That is why even doubles are the favourite finishes.
Other ways out
These routes add up too. Players pick between them by the trebles they trust and the double they like to finish on.
- T20 T18 D12treble 20, treble 18, double 12
- T19 T19 D12treble 19, treble 19, double 12
- T18 T16 D18treble 18, treble 16, double 18
