The route

  1. T17treble 17
  2. T16treble 16
  3. D20double 20

139 needs all three darts: treble 17, treble 16, double 20.

Dartboard with the route for 139 marked

Darts in hand

  • With three darts: treble 17, treble 16, double 20.
  • With two darts 139 cannot be finished — the most you can check out in two is 110.
  • With one dart only doubles and the bull finish, and 139 is not one of them.

If the first dart misses

Hit the single 17 instead of treble 17 and you are left on 122, which you cannot finish this turn; score sensibly and come back to a double next turn.

The finishing double

The route finishes on double 20. If that dart catches the single instead, the double halves cleanly: double 10, double 5. That is why even doubles are the favourite finishes.

Other ways out

These routes add up too. Players pick between them by the trebles they trust and the double they like to finish on.

  • T18 T15 D20treble 18, treble 15, double 20
  • T19 T14 D20treble 19, treble 14, double 20
  • T20 T13 D20treble 20, treble 13, double 20
