The route

  1. T20treble 20
  2. 18single 18
  3. D20double 20

118 needs all three darts: treble 20, single 18, double 20.

Dartboard with the route for 118 marked

Darts in hand

  • With three darts: treble 20, single 18, double 20.
  • With two darts 118 cannot be finished — the most you can check out in two is 110.
  • With one dart only doubles and the bull finish, and 118 is not one of them.

If the first dart misses

Hit the single 20 instead of treble 20 and you are left on 98, which still goes out with 2 darts: treble 20, double 19.

The finishing double

The route finishes on double 20. If that dart catches the single instead, the double halves cleanly: double 10, double 5. That is why even doubles are the favourite finishes.

Other ways out

These routes add up too. Players pick between them by the trebles they trust and the double they like to finish on.

  • T17 T17 D8treble 17, treble 17, double 8
  • T17 T9 D20treble 17, treble 9, double 20
  • T18 T8 D20treble 18, treble 8, double 20
