The route

  1. T18treble 18
  2. D16double 16

86 is a two-dart finish: treble 18, double 16.

Dartboard with the route for 86 marked

Darts in hand

  • With three darts: treble 18, double 16.
  • With two darts: treble 18, double 16.
  • With one dart only doubles and the bull finish, and 86 is not one of them.

If the first dart misses

Hit the single 18 instead of treble 18 and you are left on 68. That has no finish with the darts you have left, so use the next dart to set up: double 14 leaves double 20.

The finishing double

The route finishes on double 16. If that dart catches the single instead, the double halves cleanly: double 8, double 4, double 2, double 1. That is why even doubles are the favourite finishes.

Other ways out

These routes add up too. Players pick between them by the trebles they trust and the double they like to finish on.

  • T20 D13treble 20, double 13
  • BULL D18bull (50), double 18
  • T16 D19treble 16, double 19
