The route

  1. T20treble 20
  2. D6double 6

72 is a two-dart finish: treble 20, double 6.

Dartboard with the route for 72 marked

Darts in hand

  • With three darts: treble 20, double 6.
  • With two darts: treble 20, double 6.
  • With one dart only doubles and the bull finish, and 72 is not one of them.

If the first dart misses

Hit the single 20 instead of treble 20 and you are left on 52. That has no finish with the darts you have left, so use the next dart to set up: single 12 leaves double 20.

The finishing double

The route finishes on double 6. If that dart catches the single instead, the double halves cleanly: double 3. That is why even doubles are the favourite finishes.

Other ways out

These routes add up too. Players pick between them by the trebles they trust and the double they like to finish on.

  • T18 D9treble 18, double 9
  • T12 D18treble 12, double 18
  • T16 D12treble 16, double 12
