Course notes

Course #2708 plays to a par of 42 over eighteen holes and 68 rooms of track — about 75 metres end to end. It is one of the gentler courses in the set: short holes, room to recover and few places to lose a stroke. The two nines are balanced: par 20 out and par 22 in.

The longest hole is hole 16, with 6 rooms and 3 turns. No hole is longer than par 3, so a good round here is mostly about holing the second putt. Short openers: holes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 can be holed in one with the right pace.

Water comes into play on holes 6, 7 and 17. Every bridge on this course has rails, which forgives a slightly crooked putt. Slopes tilt the track on holes 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12, 13 and 18. Corner banks on holes 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 let a medium-paced ball turn the corner by itself. On holes 2, 4 and 11 the cup sits in a bowl that gathers a slow ball. On holes 7, 8, 14 and 16 the cup is perched on a hill that sheds a slow ball — come in dead straight and a touch firmer. A block stands in the middle of a room on hole 17; pick a side early. A fence with a narrow gap crosses the track on hole 11.

How to play it

• On a hill hole, a putt that stops short rolls back to you. Better to be slightly long and straight than delicate.
• Treat each slope like a stream: aim upstream of the line you want and let the slope bring the ball down to it.
• Send the ball into a corner bank at medium pace. Too hard and it rattles back across the room; too soft and it dies on the bank.
• At a fence, play to the gap from straight on; a ball coming in at an angle catches the post on the edge of the gap.
• Use Hint when you are stuck: it shows a good line from where the ball lies, the same line the computer would choose.
