Course notes

Course #2707 plays to a par of 47 over eighteen holes and 79 rooms of track — about 87 metres end to end. It sits in the middle of the set: nothing extreme, but enough slopes and turns to need a plan on most holes. The back nine is where the course bites: par 21 out, but par 26 on the way in.

The longest hole is hole 15, with 6 rooms and 3 turns. No hole is longer than par 3, so a good round here is mostly about holing the second putt. Short openers: holes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 can be holed in one with the right pace.

Water comes into play on holes 8 and 15. The bridge on hole 15 has no rails — line it up square and use less power than you think. Slopes tilt the track on holes 3, 7 and 14. Corner banks on holes 6, 9, 12, 13, 15, 16 and 17 let a medium-paced ball turn the corner by itself. On holes 3, 5, 14 and 15 the cup sits in a bowl that gathers a slow ball. On hole 16 the cup is perched on a hill that sheds a slow ball — come in dead straight and a touch firmer. Blocks stand in the middle of a room on holes 8, 9, 10, 11 and 18; pick a side early. Fences with a narrow gap cross the track on holes 5, 12 and 16.

How to play it

• On a bridge without rails, the putt that matters is the one before it: get the ball into the middle of the room, square to the bridge, and the crossing becomes a straight putt.
• On a hill hole, a putt that stops short rolls back to you. Better to be slightly long and straight than delicate.
• Treat each slope like a stream: aim upstream of the line you want and let the slope bring the ball down to it.
• Send the ball into a corner bank at medium pace. Too hard and it rattles back across the room; too soft and it dies on the bank.
• Use Hint when you are stuck: it shows a good line from where the ball lies, the same line the computer would choose.
