Course notes

Course #2712 plays to a par of 44 over eighteen holes and 76 rooms of track — about 84 metres end to end. It is one of the gentler courses in the set: short holes, room to recover and few places to lose a stroke. The back nine is where the course bites: par 19 out, but par 25 on the way in.

The longest hole is hole 16, with 6 rooms and 3 turns. No hole is longer than par 3, so a good round here is mostly about holing the second putt. Short openers: holes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 can be holed in one with the right pace.

Water comes into play on holes 5, 9 and 15. Every bridge on this course has rails, which forgives a slightly crooked putt. Slopes tilt the track on holes 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 17. Corner banks on holes 12, 13, 16, 17 and 18 let a medium-paced ball turn the corner by itself. On holes 4, 7, 8, 10, 13 and 18 the cup sits in a bowl that gathers a slow ball. On hole 17 the cup is perched on a hill that sheds a slow ball — come in dead straight and a touch firmer. Blocks stand in the middle of a room on holes 16 and 17; pick a side early. Fences with a narrow gap cross the track on holes 10 and 18.

How to play it

• On a hill hole, a putt that stops short rolls back to you. Better to be slightly long and straight than delicate.
• Treat each slope like a stream: aim upstream of the line you want and let the slope bring the ball down to it.
• Send the ball into a corner bank at medium pace. Too hard and it rattles back across the room; too soft and it dies on the bank.
• At a fence, play to the gap from straight on; a ball coming in at an angle catches the post on the edge of the gap.
• Use Hint when you are stuck: it shows a good line from where the ball lies, the same line the computer would choose.
