Course notes

Course #2775 plays to a par of 44 over eighteen holes and 72 rooms of track — about 79 metres end to end. It is one of the gentler courses in the set: short holes, room to recover and few places to lose a stroke. The back nine is where the course bites: par 20 out, but par 24 on the way in.

The longest hole is hole 13, with 6 rooms and 3 turns. No hole is longer than par 3, so a good round here is mostly about holing the second putt. Short openers: holes 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 can be holed in one with the right pace.

There is no water anywhere on this course, so a firm putt never costs a penalty stroke; walls and slopes are the danger instead. Slopes tilt the track on holes 1, 2, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17 and 18. Corner banks on holes 8, 14, 15, 16 and 18 let a medium-paced ball turn the corner by itself. On holes 4, 8 and 18 the cup sits in a bowl that gathers a slow ball. On holes 7, 11, 12 and 16 the cup is perched on a hill that sheds a slow ball — come in dead straight and a touch firmer. Blocks stand in the middle of a room on holes 5 and 12; pick a side early. A fence with a narrow gap crosses the track on hole 9.

How to play it

• On a hill hole, a putt that stops short rolls back to you. Better to be slightly long and straight than delicate.
• Treat each slope like a stream: aim upstream of the line you want and let the slope bring the ball down to it.
• Send the ball into a corner bank at medium pace. Too hard and it rattles back across the room; too soft and it dies on the bank.
• At a fence, play to the gap from straight on; a ball coming in at an angle catches the post on the edge of the gap.
• Use Hint when you are stuck: it shows a good line from where the ball lies, the same line the computer would choose.
