Course notes

Course #2774 plays to a par of 45 over eighteen holes and 73 rooms of track — about 80 metres end to end. It is one of the gentler courses in the set: short holes, room to recover and few places to lose a stroke. The two nines are balanced: par 22 out and par 23 in.

The longest hole is hole 11, with 6 rooms and 3 turns. No hole is longer than par 3, so a good round here is mostly about holing the second putt. Short openers: holes 1, 2, 4 and 6 can be holed in one with the right pace.

Water comes into play on holes 6 and 8. Every bridge on this course has rails, which forgives a slightly crooked putt. Slopes tilt the track on holes 2, 7, 9, 11, 12, 15 and 18. Corner banks on holes 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 let a medium-paced ball turn the corner by itself. On holes 2, 5, 8 and 13 the cup sits in a bowl that gathers a slow ball. On holes 7, 16 and 18 the cup is perched on a hill that sheds a slow ball — come in dead straight and a touch firmer. A block stands in the middle of a room on hole 5; pick a side early. A fence with a narrow gap crosses the track on hole 18.

How to play it

• On a hill hole, a putt that stops short rolls back to you. Better to be slightly long and straight than delicate.
• Treat each slope like a stream: aim upstream of the line you want and let the slope bring the ball down to it.
• Send the ball into a corner bank at medium pace. Too hard and it rattles back across the room; too soft and it dies on the bank.
• At a fence, play to the gap from straight on; a ball coming in at an angle catches the post on the edge of the gap.
• Use Hint when you are stuck: it shows a good line from where the ball lies, the same line the computer would choose.
