Course notes

Course #2769 plays to a par of 50 over eighteen holes and 71 rooms of track — about 78 metres end to end. It is one of the trickiest courses in the set, and par asks for clean, unhurried putting from the first tee to the last. The two nines are balanced: par 24 out and par 26 in.

The longest hole is hole 18, with 6 rooms and 4 turns. No hole is longer than par 3, so a good round here is mostly about holing the second putt. Short openers: holes 1 and 2 can be holed in one with the right pace.

Water comes into play on holes 5, 7, 10 and 15. Every bridge on this course has rails, which forgives a slightly crooked putt. Slopes tilt the track on holes 2, 4, 8, 12, 15 and 17. Corner banks on holes 8, 12, 13, 16 and 18 let a medium-paced ball turn the corner by itself. On holes 1, 3, 10 and 11 the cup sits in a bowl that gathers a slow ball. On hole 5 the cup is perched on a hill that sheds a slow ball — come in dead straight and a touch firmer. Blocks stand in the middle of a room on holes 11 and 16; pick a side early.

How to play it

• On a hill hole, a putt that stops short rolls back to you. Better to be slightly long and straight than delicate.
• Treat each slope like a stream: aim upstream of the line you want and let the slope bring the ball down to it.
• Send the ball into a corner bank at medium pace. Too hard and it rattles back across the room; too soft and it dies on the bank.
• A block in the middle of a room splits it in two. Choose the side that opens up the next turn.
• Use Hint when you are stuck: it shows a good line from where the ball lies, the same line the computer would choose.
