Course notes

Course #2718 plays to a par of 47 over eighteen holes and 79 rooms of track — about 87 metres end to end. It sits in the middle of the set: nothing extreme, but enough slopes and turns to need a plan on most holes. The back nine is where the course bites: par 21 out, but par 26 on the way in.

The longest hole is hole 15, with 6 rooms and 4 turns. Only hole 11 is a par 4: play it in two careful stages. Short openers: holes 1, 3, 4 and 5 can be holed in one with the right pace.

Water comes into play on holes 11 and 18. The bridge on hole 11 has no rails — line it up square and use less power than you think. Slopes tilt the track on holes 11, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 18. Corner banks on holes 3, 7, 8, 12, 13, 15 and 16 let a medium-paced ball turn the corner by itself. On holes 3, 5, 7, 12, 15 and 16 the cup sits in a bowl that gathers a slow ball. On hole 10 the cup is perched on a hill that sheds a slow ball — come in dead straight and a touch firmer. Blocks stand in the middle of a room on holes 10, 11, 12 and 17; pick a side early. Fences with a narrow gap cross the track on holes 8 and 14.

How to play it

• On a bridge without rails, the putt that matters is the one before it: get the ball into the middle of the room, square to the bridge, and the crossing becomes a straight putt.
• On a hill hole, a putt that stops short rolls back to you. Better to be slightly long and straight than delicate.
• Treat each slope like a stream: aim upstream of the line you want and let the slope bring the ball down to it.
• Send the ball into a corner bank at medium pace. Too hard and it rattles back across the room; too soft and it dies on the bank.
• Use Hint when you are stuck: it shows a good line from where the ball lies, the same line the computer would choose.
