The route

  1. D19double 19

38 is a one-dart finish: double 19.

Dartboard with the route for 38 marked

Darts in hand

  • With three darts: double 19.
  • With two darts: double 19.
  • With one dart: double 19.

If the first dart misses

The only dart is the double itself. Drop into the single 19 and 19 is left over — that is an odd number that needs two darts.

The finishing double

The route finishes on double 19. An odd double does not halve: a single leaves an odd number that needs a single and a double, so it costs at least one extra dart.

Other ways out

These routes add up too. Players pick between them by the trebles they trust and the double they like to finish on.

  • 6 D16single 6, double 16
  • 18 D10single 18, double 10
  • 14 D12single 14, double 12
