3 is a two-dart finish: single 1, double 1.

Dartboard with the route for 3 marked

Darts in hand

  • With three darts: single 1, double 1.
  • With two darts: single 1, double 1.
  • With one dart only doubles and the bull finish, and 3 is not one of them.

The finishing double

The route finishes on double 1. An odd double does not halve: a single leaves an odd number that needs a single and a double, so it costs at least one extra dart.

Other ways out

There is only one way to finish 3 with three darts.
