Course notes

Course #2742 plays to a par of 45 over eighteen holes and 73 rooms of track — about 80 metres end to end. It is one of the gentler courses in the set: short holes, room to recover and few places to lose a stroke. The back nine is where the course bites: par 21 out, but par 24 on the way in.

The longest hole is hole 5, with 5 rooms and 3 turns. No hole is longer than par 3, so a good round here is mostly about holing the second putt. Short openers: holes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 can be holed in one with the right pace.

Water comes into play on holes 6 and 18. Every bridge on this course has rails, which forgives a slightly crooked putt. Slopes tilt the track on holes 9 and 12. Corner banks on holes 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 13, 14 and 15 let a medium-paced ball turn the corner by itself. On holes 4, 5, 7, 9, 15 and 18 the cup sits in a bowl that gathers a slow ball. On holes 8 and 14 the cup is perched on a hill that sheds a slow ball — come in dead straight and a touch firmer. A block stands in the middle of a room on hole 13; pick a side early. A fence with a narrow gap crosses the track on hole 8.

How to play it

• On a hill hole, a putt that stops short rolls back to you. Better to be slightly long and straight than delicate.
• Treat each slope like a stream: aim upstream of the line you want and let the slope bring the ball down to it.
• Send the ball into a corner bank at medium pace. Too hard and it rattles back across the room; too soft and it dies on the bank.
• At a fence, play to the gap from straight on; a ball coming in at an angle catches the post on the edge of the gap.
• Use Hint when you are stuck: it shows a good line from where the ball lies, the same line the computer would choose.
