Course notes

Course #2727 plays to a par of 44 over eighteen holes and 73 rooms of track — about 80 metres end to end. It is one of the gentler courses in the set: short holes, room to recover and few places to lose a stroke. The two nines are balanced: par 21 out and par 23 in.

The longest hole is hole 17, with 6 rooms and 3 turns. No hole is longer than par 3, so a good round here is mostly about holing the second putt. Short openers: holes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 can be holed in one with the right pace.

Water comes into play on holes 7, 11, 12 and 14. Every bridge on this course has rails, which forgives a slightly crooked putt. Slopes tilt the track on holes 1, 5, 6, 14 and 16. Corner banks on holes 3, 13, 15, 17 and 18 let a medium-paced ball turn the corner by itself. On holes 3, 10 and 18 the cup sits in a bowl that gathers a slow ball. Blocks stand in the middle of a room on holes 8, 11 and 12; pick a side early. Fences with a narrow gap cross the track on holes 9, 15 and 17.

How to play it

• Treat each slope like a stream: aim upstream of the line you want and let the slope bring the ball down to it.
• Send the ball into a corner bank at medium pace. Too hard and it rattles back across the room; too soft and it dies on the bank.
• At a fence, play to the gap from straight on; a ball coming in at an angle catches the post on the edge of the gap.
• A block in the middle of a room splits it in two. Choose the side that opens up the next turn.
• Use Hint when you are stuck: it shows a good line from where the ball lies, the same line the computer would choose.
